Print or Digital or Both? For us, that’s been the question since day one.
I love paper. As a graphic designer creating for print since 1980, I have a longstanding relationship with old school media, mainly paper and ink. I still love the tactile feeling of something real in my hands as I flip through pages and fold corners. And I still appreciate seeing things created from scratch. Blank paper goes in a printing press on one end and comes out like magic on the other. It’s a beautiful thing.
Back in the day, as the saying goes, print was the only way to go. We didn’t have any of the forms of expression and media that we do today. Everything was shared by word of mouth, television, and the local newspaper. There was a lot that you could do with ink on paper, and there still is. But print is limited compared to today’s options for sharing stories, news, and events.
Times Have Changed
When we initially started Nevada Beer Quest, our thought was to create a bi-monthly printed and digital edition, along with the website and online articles.
We succeeded in producing two full-color 16 page editions (read Issue 001 and Issue 002), printing 5,000 copies of each edition, which we shared through 40+ locations across Nevada. They were a lot of fun to produce and we connected with many of Nevada’s craft beer community through designing and sharing them with our readers.
But most recently, we’ve come to the conclusion that we can better serve our readers through the Nevada Beer Quest website, sans printed paper. By doing so, we can put more effort, time, and talent into the website, which means we can create more stories, more videos, and more interaction, for you.
As we step back from our printed editions, our team is engaging other ways to keep you up on Nevada’s craft beer scene. Our goal is to continue to bring you the latest news that Nevada beer lovers want.
Some of the things we’re considering are…
- A Mobile App
- An exclusive Member’s Area
- A dynamic store with awesome beer-related gifts
A lot of fun ideas are being tossed about.
But the one thing we really want to keep top-of-mind is that Nevada Beer Quest is a community-influenced project. It doesn’t matter as much what we want. Our needs are simple – to experience great beers and share the experience with you. NBQ isn’t about us. It’s about you, Nevada’s growing craft beer community.
We hope you visit often, and remember to let us know how we can make it a better experience for you.
