It’s was a magical time. Saturday, Bad Beat Brewing in Henderson celebrated five years of brewing and making people smile in a big way.
Beti and I have been looking forward to this celebration for some time now, so we were already excited by the time we arrived. As always, this event was fueled by great beer and an awesome turnout, with the celebration running from 2pm to midnight. The taproom was packed and we were glad to see lots of people there that we knew, including a few that we had seen earlier at the Beer Zombies grand opening across town. The Vegas beer crowd is a relatively small community compared to larger cities with more brewers, so in many ways it’s like seeing family (but in a good way). We made our way to the bar to congratulate the Bad Beat team and order a beer. I, mostly out of habit, ordered one of my favorites, BLUFFING ISN’T WEISSE, a delightful German Hefeweizen brewed to a very session-able 5.1% abv. I occasionally pick up a six-pack and enjoy this beer at home, but somehow it’s always better fresh from the tap.
Beti’s beer choice, Gose-Mosa, a Gose with Tangerine & Grapefruit (5% abv) — one of Bad Beat’s special seasonal beers.
With beers in hand, it was time to roam, mingle, and enjoy the music. Working our way from the taproom to the brewing room in back, we were greeted with a great vibe of live music and a happy crowd.
In their celebration of five years, Bad Beat released five new beers!
It’s A Trap! / Abbey Single / 5% abv
Gose-Mosa / Gose with Tangerine & Grapefruit / 5% abv
Something Hoppy / DIPA / 9.5% abv
All the Shillings / BBA Wee Heavy / 10.5% abv
7th Inning Stretch / Munich Dunkel Lager / 5.5% abv
For those arriving early, Bad Beat had limited commemorative glassware. While we arrived a taste late for souvenir glasses, it didn’t stop either of us from enjoying the great local craft beers, made fresh right here in Henderson, NV.
In back it was all about catching up with friends and enjoying live music by guitarist/vocalist Arthur Walker. For anyone wanting to complement their beer with food, Pablo’s Kitchen mobile food trailer was right out front and ready to serve their Mexican sandwiches, tacos, burritos, and salads.
It’s always great seeing up-and-coming beer artist, Kristy Riley, there with her art. It seems we see her every-time we get to Henderson and anything “beer” is happening. You may remember that we featured Kristy in our post WALL MURAL CAN DO, where we made mention of her artwork for the Big Dog’s Brewing and Bad Beat Brewing collaboration beer, Dogs Playing Poker Tropical Stout.
Today, she was at Bad Beat’s celebration and doing a little celebrating of her own. Kristy is really tapping into the beer label genre with her second design for Bad Beat’s Gose Mosa, a beer using two of their favorite mimosa fruits ~ tangerine and grapefruit.
Regardless of your beer choice, Bad Beat is always a great beer experience.
Bad Beat Brewing opened in July 2014 by Nathan Hall born out of his love of poker and craft beer. Never one to shy away from a gamble, Nathan sold his house and spent every dollar in his bank account to fund his dream. A Bad Beat in the poker world means you’re the underdog and starting a craft brewery in Las Vegas is definitely against the odds.
At our taproom you will find 4 outrageously tasty year round offerings and 8 rotating specialties. Every month we have new beer releases in the taproom so check the events page for what’s next! You can always head over to the What’s On Tap page to see what we’re pouring right now!
You’ll also find steel tip darts, original Nintendo, Cards Against Humanity, a movie projector to watch the game, giant Jenga, and shuffleboard! Food is allowed in the taproom by having it delivered or bringing it in yourself. We do have food trucks every Thursday night and during every beer release! Cheers!
